The painting depicts the Predné Meďodoly Valley on the border between the High Tatras and the Belianske Tatras. Its name recalls the former mining of copper ore in this area. In the past, sheep and cattle grazed here, but after the establishment of the Tatra National Park, grazing gradually came to an end and nature regained its original character. The subject of the painting is based on the real valley that I visited, but I added a shepherd’s hut and grazing sheep to the composition. The painting thus connects the present-day landscape with its past and, for a moment, takes us back to a time when mountain grazing was a natural part of life beneath the Tatras.
