This painting was created for a lady as the first in a series of four paintings with Asian themes. I used a visual reference for the painting, making some modifications to it. A traditional wooden pavilion nestled in lush greenery, a pond reflecting the surrounding nature, and stones lining its shore create the peaceful atmosphere of a Japanese garden. Asian themes had not previously been among those I would have chosen, but while painting, I gradually found my way to this subject.
Working on the painting helped me develop my painting skills and I still look back fondly on the experience of painting it. The challenge was to capture the many details, the variety of vegetation and its different shades of colour, as well as the reflections on the water. It was precisely this complexity and the work on so many small details that made painting it a valuable experience for me.
