This painting marked the beginning of the My Father’s Birth Home series and also one of the most personal themes in my work. It depicts a winter view of the Tatra village of Ždiar and the Belianske Tatras, dominated by Ždiarska Vidla Peak. My father was born in the house in the foreground, and I spent part of my childhood in this place.
The painting process itself was a personal experience. From searching for the right view on location and creating the composition to the final brushstrokes, I kept returning to this place not only through the painting, but also through memories. The snowy landscape, morning light falling on the mountains, and houses nestled beneath them give me a sense of returning to a place that is inseparably connected with my family. It was while working on this painting that the idea arose to capture the same place in other forms and create a series that I still have a special connection to today.
